The UP Regional Michigan Youth Sportsmen Competition (MYSC), formally known as the UP Regional Michigan Youth Hunting Education Challenge (MYHEC), is planned for Saturday, June 24th, 2023 at the Chippewa County Shooting Association range.

While the program has a new name, it is still the same great youth program that has been held in Chippewa County since 2014 (except for 2020).

The UP MYSC is a program in outdoor skills and safety training for young hunters. Open only to those who have completed hunter-safety training at the state or provincial level, the program is conducted under simulated hunting conditions to provide the best practical environment for reinforcing and testing a young hunter's skills.

The MYSC state challenge is a two-day challenge held in Lansing in August. In 2014, the MYHEC board held its first UP Regional Event at the Chippewa County Shooting Association. This is a one-day event where six disciplines are offered - .22 light rifle, muzzle loading, archery, shotgun, hunter safety trail, and orienteering or wildlife id. Both events offer an educational environment with a competitive edge; however, the UP event offers all the necessary equipment and instruction from trained volunteers. This event is an unique opportunity to introduce youth to new skills and/or allow them to enhance skills they may already have. You can watch the YouTube video of the first year’s event here: MYSC state challenge
